Last week I made a return visit to a local nature reserve where I had previously had good sightings of the kingfisher. At the first hide I visited there was no sign of the kingfisher but the great crested grebe came close and then much further away caught a carp and gave me a few opportunities to capture the action.I later returned to the hide where most of the kingfisher sightings are.It was busy as it was the beginning of the school holidays and families came and went and a kingfisher did a fly by on a couple of occassions. We were kept busy however with a common tern fishing and a super little wren which arrived in front of the hide with a large green caterpiller for it's young brood.Eventually the kingfisher was spotted sunning itself nearby and Sharon was delighted as this was her first sighting of this stunning bird. After Sharon and Gary had left the kingfisher landed on the perch directly in front of the hide and gave more super views and photographic opportunities to those present. It had been a great afternoon with good weather, excellent birds and very enjoyable company. Hope you enjoy my efforts below at capturing some of the action. Thanks for looking in and I will be back with more in due course.
Brian, just "discovered" your blog from Sharon Whitley's blog - and so glad I did :) Your work is stunning!
ReplyDeleteBrian - the wren photo turned out beautifully - the size of that caterpillar!!! I just knew that kingfisher would come to the perch after we'd gone - but as you know I was thrilled to see what I did of him - and I'll be back for more! Stunning photos, all of them!
ReplyDeleteWe knew it would perch after we had gone, but at least Sharon got to see one before we left, my shots were not great as the view was difficult through the vegetation! It was so nice to meet you at long last, was bound to happen eventually, I was only talking to Sharon about you earlier that day when I suggested we call in at Meresands, and then we bump into you... small world! Take care and hopefully catch up with you again.
ReplyDeleteSeems like you had a tremendous day at the reserve Brian.More stunning images for us to enjoy, love the Kingfisher shots but the wren is my favourite!
ReplyDeleteAll wonderful images Brian, and a great account of your day at Meresands Wood,I've got to agree the wren nicks it for me to.
ReplyDeleteHola Brian fantasticas todas las fotografias de esta variedad que nos muestras.Un saludo
ReplyDeleteHi Brian - I hope you don't mind but I used one of your kingfisher photos here as a reference for a painting - I just loved the pose - I've linked back to your blog so people know where it came from!
